The Blue Ribbon Arson Committee sponsors an Arson Awareness Week Art Contest for Ohio secondary school students. The purpose is to create Arson Awareness among the young citizens of the state. The theme each year is the previous year’s Arson Awareness Week’s theme. High school and Middle school students, in certain school districts, are asked to provide poster sized graphic or hand drawn artwork that reflects the theme. One year the theme was Devastation of Arson while another was Prevent Youth Fire Setting. The Columbus Public and Catholic School Districts have been the most active districts due in part to the Columbus Fire Department’s involvement.

Clear Channel Communications has been generous in providing billboard space so the artwork's message gets out to the community. The Columbus City Council recognizes the students each year before their regularly scheduled May meeting.

Should you as a Fire Department member or School District Art Instructor be interested in your school district being involved, please contact the Executive Secretary of BRAC.
